The new Rupee symbol(`) released by the Indian Government. Indian Rupee becomes one of the select few currencies in the world to have it's own unique identity as it gets a new symbol which is a mix of the Devanagiri 'Ra' and Roman 'R'. Now Indian Rupee joins the US Dollar, the British Pound Sterling, the Euro and the Japanese Yen as only the fifth currency in the world to have a distinct identity. The new symbol will differentiate the Indian Rupee from the rupee of Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Rupiah of Indonesia.

The symbol, designed by D Udaya Kumar, a graduate from IIT Bombay was selected from 3,000 designs entered for the competition announced by the RBI to find a symbol for the Rupee. Udaya Kumar will be awarded Rs. 2.5 lakh by the Finance Ministry.

The 'Indian Rupee' symbol is to be adopted within six months in India and all over the world in about 24 months. The new symbol will not be embossed on coins or printed on currency notes.

The Indian Rupee symbol will find it's way into the 'Unicode Standard' so that computer users all over the world can use it. But you can download fonts with new rupee symbol.

Breaking News: Osama Bin Laden is in Solan !!!!! :-)

Film Review: Tere Bin Laden.  

The story of the film actually not about Osama Bin Laden as much as about the silliness of over-reacting America. The story revolves around a Pakistani journalist Ali (Ali Zafar) who works for “Danka TV” channel of Pakistan. He wants to make it big to get hell out of Karachi and move to US. He encounters with  Noora (Pradhumna Singh) a chicken farmer in rural Pakistan, who lookalike Osama Bin Laden. Ali makes a risky plan to shoot a fake Osama Video which will be his golden ticket to America.

The story takes a turn when the problem of Ali and his associates increases on release
of the Osama video. Rest of the story is about how they manage to solve this problem.

Tere Bin Laden is an earnest and fantastic story. It is an refreshing set of smartly written jokes. Although it is not a continuous laugh buster but these smartly placed jokes make the story quite entertaining.  Despite of a few periods of repetition  and jokelessness the movie is simply good. 

The star of the film is Ali Zafar. His pleasant looks and promising acting skills make the movie alive. The way Pradhumna Singh played his role is ultimate. All other actors did a good job in the movie.

The well known film critic Taran Adarsh summarizes his review by saying, “On the whole, Tere Bin Laden is a fun-ride that makes you smile constantly and even laugh outrageously in those two hours. A thorough entertainer, this film has all it takes to not only make its viewers laugh in the aisles, but also its investors laugh all the way to the bank.”

If you have not yet watched the movie, I recommend you to spent a good, uncomplicated  and relaxing hour and a half watching this movie.

GODESS'S CITY WELCOMED QUEEN'S BATON

QUEEN'S BATON IN SOLAN

It was a beautiful rainy morning today when Queen's Baton arrived Solan on 6th of July 2010 at 8AM. The baton was welcomed by the first shower of monsoon. It seemed that God itself wanted to welcome the arrival of Baton in Solan.  Instead of heavy rainfall, the students of various schools were standing both sides of the Mall Road with colorful umbrellas and National Flag in their hands.

It was a stunning moment for me when i saw the graceful Queen's Baton just before me. I am feeling so lucky that i witnessed a historic event today. Let's pray that we could host the Commonwealth Games very well.
